Compressor Solutions for Refineries, Petrochemical & Chemical Plants

Refineries, petrochemical facilities and chemical plants rely on gas compression across a wide range of production, handling and safety-related processes. Applications range from nitrogen supply and seal-gas compression to recycle gas systems, flare gas recovery and the compression of demanding process gases.

Many of these applications involve flammable, toxic, corrosive or otherwise hazardous gases. Compressor design must account for the complete gas composition, pressure and temperature conditions, material compatibility, sealing requirements, installation area and applicable safety specifications.

Continuous process applications also place high demands on availability, operating range and maintainability. The compressor and all package components must therefore be engineered for the specific process duty rather than selected solely according to nominal pressure and capacity.

With more than 80 years of experience in reciprocating high pressure compressor technology, LMF develops tailor-made compressor solutions for demanding refinery, petrochemical and chemical applications worldwide.

FAQs

LMF develops compressor solutions for applications including inertisation, gas sealing, fertilizer production, hydrogen sulfide compression, recycle gas compression and flare gas recovery. Additional process-gas duties are evaluated individually.
Depending on the application, compressor solutions can be engineered for hydrogen, nitrogen, synthesis gas, carbon dioxide, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, hydrocarbons, refinery off-gases and project-specific gas mixtures. Pure oxygen is excluded.
The properties of the gas influence material selection, sealing concepts, distance-piece configuration, ventilation, monitoring and package safety systems. The required measures are determined through project-specific engineering and the applicable regulations and specifications.
Depending on the required pressure, capacity, operating profile and project specifications, LMF provides trunk-type, ISO 13631 and API 618 reciprocating compressor solutions. API 618 is commonly specified for demanding heavy-duty process applications, but the appropriate configuration must be determined for each project.
Initial engineering requires the complete gas composition, suction and discharge conditions, required capacity, temperature range, operating profile, hazardous-area classification and applicable project standards. Expected contaminants and changing operating cases must also be identified.
