High Pressure Hydrogen (H₂) Compressors

Hydrogen (H₂) is a key enabler of the global energy transition. Whether used for renewable hydrogen production, energy storage, industrial processes, mobility or Power-to-X applications, reliable hydrogen compression is essential for transporting, storing and utilizing hydrogen safely and efficiently.

Hydrogen compression presents specific engineering challenges. Its low molecular weight, high diffusivity and demanding operating conditions require specialized compressor technology, carefully selected materials, reliable sealing concepts and application-specific engineering.

With decades of experience in hydrogen compression and more than 80 years of expertise in reciprocating high pressure compressor technology, LMF develops tailor-made hydrogen compressor solutions across the entire hydrogen value chain. Every solution is individually engineered according to the required pressure, capacity, hydrogen purity, operating conditions and applicable project specifications.

Engineering Hydrogen for Tomorrow

Hydrogen has been part of LMF’s engineering expertise for decades. Today, LMF continues to invest in research and development to advance hydrogen compression technology for the next generation of industrial and energy applications.

One example is LMF’s oil-free hydrogen compressor technology, developed specifically for future hydrogen infrastructure, including renewable hydrogen production and hydrogen refueling applications. Designed for discharge pressures of up to 500 bar and flow rates exceeding 30 kg/h, it combines high hydrogen purity with significantly extended service intervals through newly developed sealing and material technologies.

Developed together with leading scientific and industrial partners, the technology has been successfully validated under realistic operating conditions and forms the basis for the next generation of LMF hydrogen compressor solutions.
